About The Firm and Our Primary Focus on Criminal Defense

Our criminal defense practice covers many aspects. Most people come to us once they have been charged with a crime, but we also represent those who are under investigation and those who may have already been convicted of a crime.

For those who have been charged with a crime, we are dedicated to finding the best possible result on disposition. Every case is unique, and Alex Postic is a Columbia criminal defense attorney that approaches each case with individual diligence. First, we speak to the individual charged with the crime to get their perspective on whatever brought them into their situation. After that, we ascertain a copy of the State’s evidence, and review it intensely for legal and factual issues that may be beneficial in the individual's defense. A meeting is scheduled so that the individual charged with the crime can examine the evidence with us together. At that point, we review the options on disposition. Some cases call for plea negotiations with the state and some cases call for trial preparation. In both circumstances, our firm strives to be fully comprehensive.

Those under investigation by law enforcement, State and Federal, are also entitled to representation. When we represent people in these circumstances, our firm contacts whatever agency is investigating to speak to the investigator and make sure they know the individual is represented. We do this to review the options - including the potential to avoid an arrest. If a warrant or indictment is inescapable, we can explore the possibility to coordinate an arrest or arraignment.

On occasion, our criminal defense firm will represent and individual who has already been convicted of a crime. After consulting with such a person, we’ll make a determination as to whether he or she is eligible for relief in any of the following areas:

  • Motion to reopen
  • Motion for a new trial
  • Appeal on a legal issue
  • Post Conviction Relief
  • Expungement
  • Pardon
